BYOB BAGELS (Be Your Own Boss, Build Your Own Business, Bake Your Own Bagels) is a consulting business that helps entrepreneurs build bagel enterprises of their dreams. The business model is unique on many levels.
First, it is an "unfranchise concept" which puts the business owner in complete control of the business. There are no royalty fees to BYOB BAGELS, and our services promote independence, self-sufficiency, and self-determination. We believe that this business model is one that is better able to withstand disruptions like we have seen during the COVID pandemic.
Second, we teach from scratch and with only all-natural ingredients. This is mission based because of Beth’s experience with her own family’s monumental life changing events by improving their diets. We encourage our clients to consider an all-natural approach, though this choice, as with other aspects of their businesses, is entirely at the discretion of the business owners. We believe that through education, rather than edicts, that our clients will make the choices that are best for themselves and their customer base. The BYOB BAGELS proprietary bagel formulas were developed by Beth George and are fully customizable and scalable, providing the entrepreneurs the opportunity to scale the business exponentially (or keep it as small as they wish).
Third, we are working toward sustainability in the design of the shops, by recommending equipment solutions and designs that reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and substantially reduce the consumption of water and other resources.
We work with businesses across the US and around the globe, promoting individual ownership and pride in running a business. We have developed proprietary formulas to build flour that meets bagel specifications in parts of the world where such flour is not readily available, thereby reducing the need for imports. And of course, we recommend that water is filtered to optimize baking, thereby demonstrating that great bagels can be made anywhere in the world.
We have worked with a range of entrepreneurs, including first time business owners, seasoned chef and restaurateurs, and with many entrepreneurs who are transitioning from the corporate world to being their own bosses. At any stage, we are honored to be instrumental in aiding with the transition to “Being Your Own Boss.”
BYOB BAGELS' unique story and business model have attracted national and international media attention. In September 2020, The New York Times showcased BYOB Bagels as the “Great Read of the Day,” with the article gracing the Food Section’s front page and being shared across social media platforms.
